What you have to realize about creating and sustaining a successful business is that you have to be marketing every day, every week, every month, every year. Something has to be happening; nothing else matters.
It’s not about shooting, it’s not about becoming better with off-camera flash, it’s not about buying new camera equipment or any of the things we tend to get hung up on. Of course, it’s important that we learn how to be masters of our craft, but we have to know how to market our own business, because if you can’t make the phone ring, no money’s coming in, so who cares what camera you have?
That’s what successful studios do. They know how to market.

I’m not trying to over-trivialize it but that is the #truth. When I find myself getting lazy, busy or distracted and take my foot off the gas pedal, that’s when my business slows down.
If you’re a solopreneur and you’re the one doing everything – the marketing, the shooting, the selling, it can be overwhelming. Trust me, I get it. But we have to understand that your priority has to be marketing and shooting. Nothing else matters.
